New Universe International Group Limited ( NU INT'L) became listed on the Hong Kong GEM Board (stock code: 8068) in 2000.
NU INT'L was founded in 1996 under the brand name “Smartech” as a plastic injection precision mold manufacturer in Hong Kong. Accumulated over years of experience on making precision molds for the manufacture of faultless plastic products, NU INT'L reckoned the importance of environmental management in the manufacturing process. In 2006, NU INT'L started to diversify its business and planned to invest on environmental and resources recycling business.
In October 2007, the Group acquired 82% controlling interests in Zhenjiang New Universe Solid Waste Disposal Co. Ltd., Yancheng New Universe Solid Waste Disposal Co. Ltd. and Taizhou New Universe Solid Waste Disposal Co. Ltd. These 3 wholly foreign-owned enterprises have been established since 2003 at the Jiangsu Province with aggregate registered capital currently amounted to US$4.25 million, which are principally engaged in environmental treatment of industrial and hazardous medical solid wastes. Each of these 3 environmental companies owned its land with area of 35,722.9 square metres (or about 54 mu), 9,421 square metres (or about 14 mu), 19,896.21 square metres (or about 30 mu) and being granted land use rights for 50 years. Each of them owns industrial buildings and its own incineration facilities with solid waste disposition capacity of 4,950 tons, 3,300 tons and 3,300 tons respectively. Zhenjiang New Universe Solid Waste Disposal Co. Ltd. also operates a landfill with annual disposal capacity of 35,000 tons for disposal of general industrial solid waste, and has approved capacity to handle industrial sewage.
In the second quarter of 2008, the quality management system each of Zhenjiang New Universe Solid Waste Disposal Co. Ltd., Yancheng New Universe Solid Waste Disposal Co. Ltd. and Taizhou New Universe Solid Waste Disposal Co. Ltd., was certified to have reached the standard of GB/T19001-2000 (idt ISO9001: 2000), and the environmental management system of Zhenjiang New Universe Solid Waste Disposal Co. Ltd., was also certified to have reached the standard of GB/T24001:2004 (idt ISO14001:2004).
In 2007, NU INT'L commenced negotiation for other potential projects engaging in environmental resources treatment and recycling. In August 2008, NU INT'L acquired 38% investment interests in an eco-electroplating specialized zone under development at Zhenjiang in China. Zhenjiang Sinotech Eco-electroplating Development Limited was established in September 2007 with registered capital of US$31 million, which owned a specialized industrial zone with site area of approximately 182,520.6 square metres (or about 273.8 mu). An electroplating sewage and sludge treatment system has been built and the site is to under development to complete 22 single storey and 6 multi-storey industrial buildings to accommodate qualified professional plating manufacturers entering the specialized zone to undertake production in compliance with national environmental regulations. The eco-plating specialized zone development project has been supported by syndicated project loans jointly granted by three major bankers in Hong Kong.
Furthermore, NU INT'L has since 2004 owned its major production base and point of sale for precision mold making and plastics production in China situate at Suzhou. Suzhou New Universe Smartech Tooling & Plastics Limited was established in 2003, and its current registered capital is amounted to US$4.6 million. It owns land of 33,333 square metres (or about 50 mu) and factory buildings with gross floor area of 11,964 square metres. These mold making facilities of the Group in Suzhou comprise the latest mold making equipment and technology mainly for the production of plastics injection molds and plastic products for automobile parts, office equipment, medical equipment and domestic appliance. The quality management system of Suzhou New Universe Smartech Tooling & Plastics Limited was certified in 2006 to have reached the standard of ISO9001:2000, which carries out in-process quality control on the manufacturing of molds and plastic products to ensure competitive pricing and satisfactory lead times. The factory’s quality systems have to pass periodical internal audits. From conceptual prototype to final product shipment, the Group's facilities provide complete value chain to meet customers' need.
To strengthen the network of plastics related business in China, in October 2007, the Group acquired 28.67%, 24.5% and 18.62% investment interests respectively in Qingdao Zhongxin Huamei Plastics Co. Ltd., Danyang New Huamei Plastics Co. Ltd., and Suzhou New Huamei Plastics Co. Ltd. These 3 Sino-foreign equity joint venture enterprises are engaged in plastic materials dyeing for major plastics manufacturing customers in China.
